How to Reduce Your Stress Hormone Levels This Christmas

Over the past week I have been researching the effects cortisol has on the body. Cortisol is also known as the stress hormone, for when we are stressed we produce more of this hormone in the body. Christmas time can be a time when we produce a lot more of this hormone due to the demands placed on us.

A balanced amount of stress and therefore cortisol is actually important for a healthy functioning of the body. The problem arises when we are constantly bathed in this hormone. It becomes too much for our system: we gain weight, we can become depressed...

During my research into cortisol I was searching for clinically proven ways we can reduce high levels of cortisol without the drugs. And I came across an amazing study. This study had taken 83 subjects who had come for a cortisol check but were instead randomly assigned to a single hour long session of EFT, talk therapy or rest (a randomised controlled trial).

The results showed cortisol levels in the rest and talk therapy groups dropped by 14%, while for the group doing EFT their cortisol levels dropped by 24%. This is only after a one-hour session.

I had first studied EFT in 2001 and have been using it ever since. I was therefore delighted to hear that clinical studies were starting to prove the EFT's efficacy. Inspired by this I watched the EFT based film The Tapping Solution last night for the first time. I found it a revelation – really inspiring.

The film takes a group of 10 people with different medical conditions from insomnia to fibromyalgia, from post-traumatic stress disorder to eating disorders. It then uses EFT to help this group with their conditions. I found it really uplifting and moving to watch the changes this group made over just a few days. Conditions they'd had for decades started to be released.

Until the 20th December 2013 the producers of the film are offering free viewings of this film online.
